The exploitation of media, with films such as â€Å"James Bond† relevant to the time, has allowed for messages of propaganda to be conveyed throughout the Cold War. Media was able to start movements such as â€Å"The Red Scare† and McCarthyism, where a new enemy was identified and pitted the Western world against the idea of Communism and the USSR. Films such as From Russia with love portrayed all Russian people as villains and helped reinforce the perception of the United States of America as being a superpower. Such films and ideas of propaganda played a role in British politics and allowed for the United Kingdom to show their involvement during the Cold War. As the Cold War tensions decreased and underwent a period of dà ©tente, the James Bond†¦show more content†¦This type of plot would be able to insinuate to the general public that the people from the West and from the East could be able to cooperate. â€Å"Later novels and films had Bond move away from storylines and actions that where grounded in reality† (Source F). Describing that the plot was originally based on events throughout the Cold War, but once tensions decreased and new relations were formed it began to develop into fiction and became more sensationalised. Bond films can be considered an important aspect in communicating propaganda throughout the Cold War to the public and to other countries in an attempt to contain the growth of Communism. Other forms of media related to the James Bond films, such as movie posters had a profound effect on the public as it clearly identifies an enemy. As depicted in a poster advertising the film From Russia with Love listing â€Å"His new incredible adventures† and â€Å"His incredible enemies† (Source E). Depicting that an enemy has been identified relating to some influence of the Soviet Union, and the public would be able to relate to the plot as it is not just a fictional threat but a social and political threat. This film would be able to give insight to the espionage of the Cold War and the secret tactics of both sides. Thus making the threat of communism greater, without being able to see a threat of the Soviet Union if it was done by means of espionage.
